What is Vinyl Tile?

2021 12/18

Vinyl tiles are a kind of flooring material, usually cheap, easy to install, and easy to maintain. These floor tiles are mainly made of polyvinyl chloride resin and plasticizer, which are waterproof and very durable. Floors covered with vinyl tiles, if properly maintained, can be used for a long time without looking old or worn.

There are many styles of vinyl tiles on the market. In addition to the basic colors and patterns, vinyl floor tiles are now being manufactured to mimic other types of more expensive floors, such as wooden slats, marble, and inlaid wood designs. These tiles are made of various textures to match the floor style they imitate.

Some vinyl floors are well done to disguise their expensive counterparts. Sometimes it is difficult to tell that the floor is made of vinyl tiles, rather than marble or wood. Most vinyl floor tiles have a self-adhesive backing, making it easy for most homeowners to install. To install veneer tiles, just peel off the backing and press the tiles on the floor. Some vinyl floor tiles do not have an adhesive backing and need to be fixed to the floor with an adhesive. In order to properly maintain the vinyl tile floor, it should be cleaned frequently. Walking on rough or dirty vinyl floors may cause scratches. The floor should be wiped with water or a special vinyl cleaning product once a month. In order to maintain the high gloss or satin finish of vinyl tiles, a special clear coating can be used cleaners, abrasives and wax should not be used on vinyl tiles.

Vinyl tile flooring has some caveats. Because vinyl is cut into tiles, vinyl tile floors have many edges. Over time, vinyl tiles sometimes loosen. In addition, when the vinyl floor is towed away, the dirt will be trapped in the cracks between the tiles. Many homeowners and companies who choose vinyl floor install it in heavy traffic areas because of its durability. The tile itself is completely waterproof, so it is often used in the kitchen. However, because the appearance and quality of vinyl tiles have been improved over the years, it has gone out of the kitchen and entered other rooms.
